I have no real problem simplifying this but, I'm not sure this would fit in the current Newsbin. Might make more sense to make the android version work like this. It particularly makes more sense since, multi-like per line list items isn't a natural thing in windows but, is in Android. Maybe a "NewsbinEZ" would benefit from a simplified design like this.
The problem is that for every person slowly downloading (or not so slowly) large files, there are also a bunch of people downloading small files. The failed list is there to hold hundreds of failed files which can happen when the dup detector kicks in for instance.
You're ideas are going to take me some time to digest but, that was just my initial impression.
