If you add groups, you can use the "groups of groups" as topics. Say you add a bunch of porn groups then add them to a "porn" topic. You could then select this topic before you search so, the search only returns results from within these groups.
You don't have to download headers or anything like that. These groups are simply used for filtering purposes. Focusing your searches on groups likely to have the content you're looking for.
You can test it right now. Try some searches, add groups and use them as filters. You just can't use the search results to download with without a sub.
The biggest thing that improves the search results is the "min size" filter. If you're looking for bigger files, a 100 Meg size filter cleans the results up significantly. The larger the min size filter, the cleaner the results. You just have to know how big the file sets are you're looking for. This doesn't work if the files you're looking for are small.
