6.52/53 doesn't use NB! files any more. NB2 files which replaced them only exist during assembly so, you shouldn't see any anywhere either. You can tell Newsbin to delete the rars to the recycle bin but, it sounds like you're pretty much out of disk space so, that will probably only make things worse. You need to avoid running out of disk space if you want a reliable download. Maybe download internally and unrar to a USB drive or something.
I'll say it again, you need at least 3 times as much free space as your download.

It looks like ver 6 puts NB! tempfiles somewhere other than the download dir.
