Nothing prevents you from copying the headers over to the VM or backing them up. They're just data files. I don't recommend letting 2 instances of Newsbin use the same data folder at the same time though.

I wish I had had a direct solution, since I've built up a year's worth of header downloads, a not small amount of data acquisition. But I can still continue using those headers AND search (for which, a subscription extension is in the offing). So that's really not any lasting handicap, beyond an inability to scratch an intellectual itch.
